Steve Ellson, Partner
Qualifications: Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Registered to carry out audits. Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Advisors.
Experience & specialisms: Steve has experience of working closely with a large number of owner-managed businesses. He provides an all round service from tax mitigation to wealth creation, management reporting to planning and financial decision making, and specialises in the legal sector (Solicitors and Barristers) among others. Steve has a keen interest in IT and is fully competent in computerised accounting systems being a recognised SAGE trainer. Steve also has helped numerous businesses set up and run Sage accounting systems.
Outside work: Steve is a crack shot with his true love being shooting (of the clay kind). Equally he enjoys travelling, football, good food and wine and is an active member and former president of the Christchurch Rotary club. He is married to Cathy and has two children.
Christopher Ratcliffe, Partner
Qualifications: BA, Member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Registered to carry out audits.
Experience & specialisms: As well as working closely with a large number of owner-managed businesses, Chris is an expert in the tricky areas property taxation and VAT and has a keen interest in corporate re-structuring and re-organisations. Another area of speciality is all aspects of the hotel and leisure trade.
Outside work: Chris is a mean sailor and travels the world, work-permitting, in search of the best trade-winds. Chris is a keen walker and enjoys spending time with his young son.
Lucy Filer, Partner
Qualifications: BA, Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Registered to carry out audits.
Experience & specialisms: Lucy started out training in hotel management with the Hyatt chain before changing career to accountancy. This gives her a real understanding of the pressures facing businesses in the ‘real world’. She is primarily involved with a mixed portfolio of businesses, varying in size, and specialises in education and the hotel industry and charities. Along with Steve, Lucy spends time developing and promoting the firm and on staff training.
Outside work: Lucy is married to Ran and has two boys. With politics in her blood, she enjoyed her time as a local councillor. Lucy likes travelling and the outdoors and occasionally extricates her bicycle from the garden shed.
Philippa Blunt, Tax Partner
Qualifications: Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Advisers and Association of Taxation Technicians.
Experience & specialisms: Philippa did her training initially with the Inland Revenue and then with national accountants Deloitte & Touche. She moved to Filer Knapper in 1997 and heads up our tax and payroll departments. She is primarily involved in personal and company taxation ensuring our clients pay the correct tax and not a penny more. Her particular areas of expertise include capital gains tax planning, inheritance tax and estate planning, and planning for high net worth individuals.
Outside work: Philippa is married to Ray and has a young daughter. She can be found on a Wednesday evening in her Brown Owl uniform, helping out at the local Rainbows group. She enjoys travelling with her family in their caravan and is a rather green-fingered gardener.
